Rev. Timothy Martin

February is Black History Month. Founded in 1926 as “Negro History  Week” by historian Carter G. Woodson; Black History Month has become a  great teaching tool and reminder of the role African Americans have  played in our nation’s history.

This is an important commemoration; one we honor with a tribute to  Martin Luther King with this reenactment by of his “I Have a Dream”  speech.  This was performed by Reverend Timothy Martin on January 18th  as part of a celebration honoring Dr. King held on the Watertown,  MA campus of Perkins School for the Blind.

Listen to an audio file of the speech.

About Rev. Timothy Martin

Mr. Martin has performed the “I Have a Dream” speech in the character of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for more than 10 years at various military installations, colleges, high schools, churches and groups throughout New England. After receiving profound responses to his re-enactment of the speech in Germany, Mr. Martin realized that performing in character would be his way of keeping Dr. King’s dream and vision alive for all Americans. Timothy Martin, a recent retiree of the United State Air Force, was the Secretary for the 66th Security Forces Squadron Commanders at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA.

Dr. King originally delivered the “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after he organized a massive march in Washington, DC., on August 28, 1963. He was credited with mobilizing supporters of desegregation which prompted the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
