Professional Development

Knowledge is most powerful when it is shared. Perkins School for the Blind trains more teachers, professionals and administrators working in blindness, deafblindness or multiple disabilities than any other agency in New England.

As a pioneer in the education of people who are blind, Perkins is committed to sharing the experience of its staff and its collective educational expertise with other professionals. Many of Perkins' staff members are active leaders in regional, national and international organizations and associations that advocate for education, accessibility and adaptive technologies.

We make it a priority to share what we are learning every day on campus, in our community efforts and through our programs around the world. We routinely:

  • Offer training for professionals working in educational, service or health-oriented organizations
  • Actively promote, sponsor and support conferences for service providers
  • Provide assistance to professionals and families throughout New England through the Educational Partnerships Program
  • Write and produce publications designed as training guides for teachers, family members and other caregivers
  • Make available the Perkins Panda Early Literacy Program®, a comprehensive program designed for young children with visual impairments and the people who care for them
  • Offer insight on the development of customized seating, games and educational materials for children with disabilities through the Perkins' Assistive Device Center
  • Provide resources about braille and brailler products through Howe Press/Perkins Brailler
