Parents, Kids, and Teachers

For Kids:

Many children contact Perkins to learn about Helen Keller, blindness and deafblindness. The Samuel P. Hayes Research Library offers resource packets on Laura Bridgman and Braille, complete with games and riddles. The Library also offers fiction books with characters who are blind and nonfiction books about blindness geared for young readers.

For Parents:

The Samuel P. Hayes Research Library offers a variety of resources for parents, families and caregivers of children who are blind or have low vision. Magazines, journals and books on a variety of topics from communication to inclusion are available. The Library also offers recommendations for internet resources for parents, fiction books with characters who are blind, and nonfiction books about blindness.

For Teachers:

Passing the torch of knowledge.

The Samuel P. Hayes Research Library offers informational resources for teachers wanting to introduce their students to disability awareness topics, as well as educational resources for teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired. Resource packets, complete with games and riddles, information about Helen Keller, and fiction books with characters who are blind are available. A variety of publications, including nonfiction books about blindness, can also be helpful.
